LAPICS is pleased to announce a special Professional Development Meeting (PDM) in February featuring well-known speaker Mark Kozak-Holland, a renowned authority on risk management and how business can learn from history. He will be talking with us about how we as operations, project management and information technology professionals can learn lessons from the Titanic disaster. This is a passionate and contemporary discussion Mark has delivered to audiences all over the world, so LAPICS is pleased to co-sponsor this even with other local Southern California chapters. Here is an excerpt from his website about this topic:

"Historical projects can contain important lessons that are very relevant to projects today. For example, the sinking of Titanic may seem like an operational disaster but the construction project had a significant impact. The disaster was caused by compromises made during the project design, construction, and testing phases to accommodate various business interests; these compromises reduced the effectiveness of safety systems and provided faulty operational data upon which to base management decisions. While no one could predict that the ship was going to strike ice, the compromises made during the build and launch of the ship almost guaranteed that such a collision was going to be a serious one and result in a catastrophic project failure. Using a historical example illustrates the consequences of seemingly innocuous operational decisions, helping executives avoid repeating the mistakes of the past."

Seating is limited, so be sure to register early! For more information about our special guest and his innovative ideas, please visit http://www.lessons-from-history.com. We look forward to seeing you on February 11th!
