Plant Tour - Triumph Aerostructures

PROGRAM OVERVIEW: 
The Triumph Aerostructures Hawthorne site is where aviation pioneer Jack Northrop started Northrop Aircraft Incorporated in 1939. It became part of Vought Aircraft Industries in July 2000 when Northrop Grumman sold its commercial aerostructures business to equity funds managed by The Carlyle Group. In June 2010 Triumph Group, Inc. (TGI) acquired Vought Aircraft Industries and renamed it Triumph Aerostructures.

The Hawthorne facility has produced Boeing 747 fuselage panels since the aircraft program began in 1966. Since that time, Hawthorne workers have delivered over 1,400 fuselage shipsets, including those for Air Force One. This fuselage section is 172 feet long. 

Each shipset has 21 major side and door panels delivered to Boeing in six custom, oversized railcars. The fuselage is the largest single subcontracted section of the aircraft. The 747 tail section, doors, floor beams and bonnet fuselage panels are produced at the company’s Marshall Street facility in Grand Prairie, Texas.

In 2004, the company began consolidating operations in Hawthorne, reducing the required manufacturing footprint by 50 percent. The facility was sold in 2005 and the company continues to occupy its space at the Hawthorne site under a lease agreement.

TOUR REQUIREMENTS:
Tour is limited to 40 attendees only; additional registrations will be waitlisted.  All attendees must be U.S. Citizens, and must present a valid photo ID (driver’s license or passport) to receive a tour badge. For security reasons, no late or walk-in registrations allowed.

All attendees must wear comfortable closed-toe walking shoes for the tour…high heels and sandals are NOT allowed. Cameras or camera phones are NOT permitted on the tour.
