October 2016 Plant Tour:

Amazon Fulfillment Center

Embracing of every supply chain edge it can gain, retail giant Amazon is the largest online retailer in the world.  In 2015, Amazon surpassed Walmart (a brick and mortar operation) as the most valuable retailer in the United States by market capitalization and is ranked as the Top Supply Chain of 2015 by Gartner.

Whether it’s same-day delivery, online groceries, instant ordering “Dash” buttons, delivery drones, or even the 2015  announcement of delivery to customer’s car trunks, Amazon pushes the supply chain envelope like no other company. With over $113 billion in sales in the last 4 quarters, this e-commerce giant connects buyers and suppliers from across the world.

Amazon’s improved buying experience for customers differentiates itself further from the competition. Through the engineering of its fulfillment centers, Amazon has built the world’s most nimble infrastructure for the transfer of goods.  Amazon’s transportation logistics and distribution center efficiencies reduce the lifecycle energy use of consumer products and allows businesses to focus on making things rather than moving them.  In many ways, Amazon can be seen as a greener option than traditional storefront retailers because the merchant does not need to operate a physical location when using Amazon fulfillment.

August's Amazon plant tour sold out in 10 days - don't wait to register for this one!

The Amazon Fulfillment Center in San Bernardino is over 1 million sq feet and is one of six fulfillment centers in California.
